The Survival Mantra
It was stiniking hot and in search of breeze, I was driving along the Beach road, at a speed which my mom would raise her eyebrows and dad would look to snatch the key off the vehicle, yeah and suddenly the drive along paradise came to a screeching halt, yes there jumped the devil out of the realms of nowhere, clad in it typical blue berret, with a white shirt and khaki pant on and the letters T.P. pinned on to the shoulder straps. There were 5 more in front of me and 3 behind me. My turn arrived, the devil grinned and I could see that glitter of gold in the corner of his neat set of teeth...Devil asked me, "Why havent you worn your helmet?" I said, "I forgot!" Then the devil came back at me, "Insurance??" I promptly showed him the papers, "Hypothecation??", "Here You Go" said I. The Devil came to the big one finally, "Licence????" as I showed him that tiny piece of paper that enabled me to drive on the city roads, he snatched it from me and put into his pocket and coolly said, pay me 100 and take your licence, and then flashed that scene, Kamal Hassan in the garb of the old man setting his hair Darya style and playing magic with his fingers to teach the police man lessons and I wanted to do the same, 100 bucks for no fault of mine!! but then there were nine more people who were ready to pay and get on with their evening so, with no choice I picked out that fresh hundred rupee note which I had withdrawn from the ATM 10 minutes ago and put it under his nose, and the policeman cried out loud that he doesnt take bribes only to mutter in the aftermath to put it in his pocket and take the licence...Exasperated, I paid and carried on along the Beach road until my friend waved me down near that imposing Gandhi statue on Marina and then there it appeared, dimaag mein chemicals ka kuch hua and i saw them ... the three famous monkeys of Gandhi, only that they had changed their poses now, they gave us a new survival mantra to live today, See All Evil, Hear All Evil but just Say Nothing!
